Chinese company buys inn in Holzweiler
Must promote growth for the fashion brand internationally.
The Chinese Sequoia Capital China has entered as a majority owner in the Norwegian clothing brand Holzweiler, according to Business of fashion.
According to a press release sent out by the brand will expand to China, the United States and the United Kingdom. Already in October, they will open their own store in Copenhagen, and it is planned to open a store in London in the spring of 2023.
The brand was founded by siblings Susanne and Andreas Holzweiler in 2012. In 2014, Maria Skappel Holzweiler also became part of the company. The three will still be on the ownership side, but with a smaller share than before. The company will not disclose the price of the acquisition.
– This marks the beginning of a kind of Holzweiler 2.0, the Holzweiler trio tells BOF.
Angelica Cheung, Venture Partner at Sequoia Capital China, says in the matter at Holzweiler has the perfect mix of quality, design and a modern approach to lifestyle.
– We believe that it has a great opportunity to expand to other parts of the world, especially at a time when the customer appreciates nature, being outside and human contact more than ever. Sequoia China will support the family with all our resources along the way, Cheung told the magazine Fashion network.
Holzweiler’s press contact Chloe Long tells MinMote that the Chinese company is passionate about safeguarding Holzweiler’s Norwegian values.
– They will support us in our journey as we introduce a new and global audience.
When asked how big an investment is being talked about, Long does not answer, but in the press release it appears that it is a “significant investment”.
The family business Holzweiler has achieved great success in recent years. They have opened their own flagship stores, showcased their collections during fashion week in Copenhagen and even started their own restaurant. They have also received criticism for applying for an unpaid intern.
The fashion brand has become a favorite among many Norwegians, and has also been worn several times by international superstars.
