a popular and religious festival
On August 9, the morning promises to be joyful and convivial.
Sainte Dévote is not the only Saint to watch over the Principality. Saint-Roman also protects Monaco and the Monegasques do it well during the celebrations which take place every August 9th.
Second patron saint after Sainte-Dévote, the saint was initially a Roman legionary. After declaring himself a Christian and being baptized, the Emperor Valerian had him flogged and beheaded on August 9, 258. Since then, Roman has become a martyr every year and Monaco pays homage to him.

Finally, the festivities will end in the Saint-Martin gardens around an aperitif offered by the Town Hall.
To accompany the celebrations, the U Cantin d’A Roca association will sing in Monegasque during the mass and will sing the official anthem of Monaco in the Saint-Martin gardens.
