The Moldovan Railway helps to increase the export of grain from Ukraine
The State Enterprise “Moldova Railway” could triple its capacity to transport goods, against the backdrop of increased demand due to the provocation of the war in Ukraine and the limited capacities of neighboring countries to export through the Black Sea ports. The statement was made by Oleg Tofilat, general director of CFM, during the show “Points of reflection” from “Vocea Bessarabiei”.
The Russian invasion in Ukraine made the Republic of Moldova contribute to solving part of the grain transit problem from the neighboring country, said Oleg Tofilat, admitting that it does not have sufficient capacities.
“We need to gradually add traction, to coordinate with colleagues from the southern ports: Reni, Giurgiulesti and Galați. However, there is a big difference between rail, marine and road transport”, he concluded.
Making a comparison with the past years, when the amount of grain transported from the Republic of Moldova was small, and Ukrainian logistics were oriented towards sea ports, Tofilat highlighted that this year the volume of transported goods is even higher, but it is insufficient to cope . the needs of Ukrainians.
Valentina Ursu, the host of the show, was also interested in the fate of employees who receive their salaries very late, the delay reaching up to six months. Tofilat said that the workers were given a salary increase of about 80 percent and that it is already being paid monthly, without delay.
“The salary increase was due to the fact that we transport more and, respectively, we earn more. Until 2023, we will increase the salary by another 50%”, added Oleg Tofilat.
Currently, the company has 6,200 employees and several hundred vacancies. On August 5, “Moldova Railway” celebrated 150 years since its foundation.
