Luxemburg Silent journey on the Haute-Sûre lake
INSENBORN – The solar-powered boat offers another view of the Haute-Sûre lake.
Beach, music and barbecue: these are undoubtedly the first words that come to mind when you think of the Haute-Sûre lake in summer. And yet, descending from the solar boat that crisscrosses the lake from May to the end of October, it will be rather silence, nature and escape.
Propelled, noiselessly, by the solar energy of the photovoltaic panels on its roof, the SolaarBoot sets off from Insenborn, near beach 1 or Liefrange, for a 12 km and two hour ecological excursion through the meanders of the largest reservoir of drinking water in the country. A new perspective, even if these places are familiar to you.
Between history and legends, geography and nature, with a stop at the Burfelt Forest Discovery Center, the multilingual guided tour is pleasant and rich in anecdotes.
Up to 23 people on board
We learn everything about this valley, flooded for the first time in May 1959, after the creation “in just three years from 1955 to 1957 of the 47-meter dam wall”, recalls Jean-Marie Reimen, from the Naturpark Öewersauer. A perfect way to spot inconspicuous beaches. Faced with the success of the boat rented in 2001, the park bought one in 2002.
The boat accommodates up to 23 people and can, most often, be content with its solar energy, without needing to be plugged in. And for those who need to move, the “amphibian tour” combines the solar cruise and an 8 km hike.
