An international scout camp with more than 1,000 children and young people is currently taking place in Ebenau (Flachgau). Participants also come from South Korea, Cambodia and Ukraine. The focus is on the community and topics such as environmental awareness and international understanding.
The scouts pitched their tents in Ebenau on Monday – everything at the large camp is under the motto pure. The name is intended to describe environmentally conscious and sustainable behavior, the camp takes place as a green event, there are also reusable dishes and, according to the organizers, garbage is removed as best as possible.
Infrastructure: 500 meters of canal, 2,000 meters of power lines
The scouts are guests in the Flachgau community for a total of eleven days. For the camp, 500 meters of sewage and water pipes were built, 40 large tents were erected and 2,000 meters of power lines were quickly laid. Such a major meeting of scouts takes place in Salzburg every eight years, the last time in 2014 in the Gasteinertal (Pongau).
For eleven days, the population of Ebenau increased
For Ebenau, the camp quickly means a doubling of the population, says Mayor Johannes Fürstaller (ÖVP). The small Flachgau community has not quite 1,500 inhabitants, so many scouts and supervisors are currently accommodated in the large camp. On Sunday, the organization invites interested visitors to visit the camp. There are shuttle buses that run from 9:00 a.m. from Salzburg main station to Ebenau.
