Greece’s medals in each event
With a gold medal – by Yiannis Korakidis in the hammer throw – and a silver medal – by Areti Filippidou in the discus throw -, which brought Greece to 13th place in the medal table among 34 countries that won a medal and 16th place out of 69 countries that rated according to the system of the world federation from the entry of the athletes into the eight, our athletes and track and field athletes are returning from Colombia, who competed in the 13th U20 World Championships, which ended a few hours ago.
Greece’s presence at the U20 World Championships
The biggest presence of our country, with the most medals, was last year in Nairobi in which we won three medals but gold, and specifically without two silver and one bronze.
In the medal table in the Nairobi championship we took 21st place out of 32 countries and in the standings (8 places) we took 13th place out of 61 countries.
From two medals regardless of color we have in 2016 in Bydgosz, Poland and in the same city in 2008, in Tampere in 2018, in Annecy in 1998 and this year in Cali, Colombia. In total, our country has won a total of 17 medals in the history of the institution, of which 3 are gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze.
Men have won more, 10 of them, 3 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze and 7 women, 3 silver and 4 bronze.
The 1st U20 World Championship in Athens
The Championship of this category, K20 today, Adolescents-Youths up to first, started in Greece which hosted the 1st event in 1986 from July 16 to 20 at the Olympic Stadium in Athens.
The U20 Championship (adolescent/youth) is held every two years in even years with the exception of 2021 which, due to the covid-19 pandemic, took place in 2021 instead of 2020.
