The midfielder has already almost agreed with the Belgian champion, where he was seen as the successor of top talent Charles De Ketelaere. the Dutchman still changed his mind, partly due to technical director Marc Overmars. The midfielder already knew the driver of Antwerp FC from their period at Ajax.
Ekkelenkamp moved to Hertha BSC last season because Ajax had few playing minutes ahead, but his transfer to the Bundesliga club was not a success. The midfielder only played sporadically in the new year, not counting on many minutes at all. That is why he was eager to make the switch to Belgium, where he hopes to become a fixed value under his compatriot Van Bommel.
According to Belgian media, the club is about 4.5 million for the Dutchman, which in Germany therefore does not exist to count on a starting place. He had there before the competition of Kevin-Prince Boateng, Lucas Tousart and Vladimir Darida. Earlier this announcement, the German Kicker already reported that ‘a base place was far away’ for the youth international of Orange.
