Central Bohemia lacks over five hundred policemen, Prague almost a thousand
Mainly for local and district departments
According to Siřišťová, additional police officers would be needed in Prague mainly for the department of the local department and transport services, but also for the emergency and escort departments.
Members of the riot police assigned to district departments are most noticeably absent in central Bohemia as well; however, more transporters would also be needed here. According to regional director Václav Kučera, the long-term situation is the most difficult in the neighborhood of the capital and in the area of large cities, where there is a greater supply of job opportunities. The police also face “competition” from, for example, the army or professional firefighters, who focus their recruitment activities on a similar target group. Both police directorates are trying to change the situation by recruiting new ones.

“We do a whole range of recruitment activities,” said Deník Siřišťová, according to whom these include, for example, workshops, preventive and recruitment events in secondary schools, where high school students are introduced to the possibility of applying for a job with the police. “We create recruitment campaigns, we participate in various public events, where our personnel and prevention officers show an interest in the work of the police, they get to know more detailed information and specific activities that are current within the police,” said the spokeswoman.
She also mentioned the incentive program for police officers who already serve in the ranks of the largest security force in the country: if they bring in a new colleague, they will receive a financial reward. Despite all this, it does not seem that the situation should change significantly in the foreseeable future. “Looking at the current situation on the labor market and the unemployment rate, it does not look like the trend of departures and arrivals should reverse. Rather, we assume that the situation in the personnel area will not improve by the end of the year,” said Siřišťová.
The muscles and the head must be in good condition
Central Bohemia spokeswoman Vlasta Suchánková stated that Central Bohemia also develops recruitment activities at various events and via the Internet. The regional police directorate’s long-term cooperation with secondary schools with the contribution of other partners is also well-known: as part of the Crossing the barriers with the police event, under the supervision of police instructors, future high school graduates will try the physical tests that are part of the police admissions process – and if they pass, they will immediately receive a certificate. that they have already met this condition if they decide to apply for employment after finishing school. Other conditions are success in psychotests and excellent health.

The last time Director Kučera welcomed twenty men and women who decided to work as a police officer was on August 1. Since January, according to Suchánková, there have been over 120. Newcomers apply to the order, traffic or foreign police – but before they start “sharp” service, they have to go through a twelve-month basic professional training. During this time, they will become real police officers who can and know everything that is needed in the service.
Spokesperson Suchánková reminded that new police officers and police officers are already entitled to service income at this time – and after the end of the probationary period they are also awarded a recruitment allowance of 150,000 crowns.
