Ligue 2: Paris FC wins without convincing against Quevilly (2-1)

Sugar Mizzy August 6, 2022

Five days after their draw at Sochaux (0-0), Paris FC won their first success of the season against Quevilly (2-1). But under the eyes of Raï, the club’s new ambassador, this match showed that this team was still very perfectible. She will have to quickly increase her level of play as two consecutive trips (Guingamp, Niort) are looming.

What you must remember

He scored in the last league game against Grenoble last season (2-0). He scored in the first match of this new season at Charléty. Repositioned in the axis of the defense this season, Maxime Bernauer perfectly cut off a cross from Florent Hanin to register in 2nd but in L2 (1-0, 5th). If Ivan Filipovic, still preferred to Vincent Demarconnay yet recovered from his Covid and on the bench, must intervene on a strike from Houtoundji (10th), Paris FC manages quietly. And after a poorly cleared strike from Jonathan Iglesias, Mehdi Chahiri dribbled past a QRM defender then goalkeeper Thuram (2-0, 32nd). Loaned by Strasbourg (L1), he registered his first but for his first match with the PFC. Often quickly replaced by Thierry Laurey, not very comfortable during this first half hour, Chahiri did not really celebrate his goal… Behind, like Monday at Sochaux, the Chergui-Bernauer pair proved intractable.

As soon as the recovery, Paris FC posted a penalty after a good movement Iglésias-Le Cardinal-Gory. But Pierre-Yves Hamel’s attempt was diverted by Hamel (52′). Cety would however have done good mentally to the ex-attacker of Lorient. He remains in effect on a white season in Clermont (18 games, 0 goal) and has not scored since December 13, 2020 during a Lorient – Nîmes (3-0) in L1.

And instead of leading 3-0, Paris FC, which was heading for a controlled success, got scared at the end of the match after Pierret’s score was reduced (2-1, 78th). Filipovic saves his team on a header from Houtoundji (82nd). The Parisians who finished with a five-man defense can breathe. And in the locker room, to celebrate this first success of the season, the faithful steward Mathurin Houngué, who left this summer after 20 years of presence at Paris FC, was missing…

The player: Maxime Bernauer

Monday in Sochaux, Maxime Bernauer had already shown himself to be the best player on his team. He renewed this performance by showing himself by achieving a faultless defensive, always well placed to intervene and clear the hot balls. A big performance enhanced by the opening goal.

The number: 3

Paris FC has missed its last three penalties awarded. He ended his season with an incredible barrage against Sochaux (1-2) where he missed two penalties by Moustapha Name (2nd) and Migouel Alfarela (14th). For his return to Charléty, he again experienced a failure in this exercise with Pierre-Yves Hamel, his new striker.

The reaction

“We got a bit on fire at the end. We could have played some counterattacks better, we lost too many balls. We have to be more vigilant defensively. We are not going to be choosy but we cannot be satisfied with that. We are not ready, there are things to refine and settle But it is not a disaster either, because we won. It was a first game at home so it was still satisfying to take the 3 points. Now, we will have to do more because we are going to Guingamp which I believe is the leader… We had some absentees, others are not yet fully ready, especially offensively on the corridors. We will quickly recover Lopez and Guilavogui. Lety diverted criminal Pierre-Yves (Hamel)? He hasn’t been marked for a long time, maybe he’s putting too much pressure on his shoulders. But it will come naturally. There is no danger in the house. It will live up to our expectations. He is already well integrated into the group and works a lot defensively as we saw at Sochaux. There’s no reason he shouldn’t be rewarded and why he shouldn’t reward us.”

Thierry Laurey, coach of Paris FC
