DIJON: The regional collective for the abolition of nuclear weapons commemorating the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
Its members begin a “fasting-action” at the CEA Valduc this Saturday August 6 before giving an appointment in particular on August 9 for a ceremony on the Place de la République in Dijon. France’s accession to the treaty on the prohibition of nuclear weapons is again requested.
Rendez-vous from August 6 to 9 in Dijon and at the CEA-Valduc for the commemorations of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
France must join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TIAN).
The participants come together in solidarity with the victims of the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and those of the more than 2,000 nuclear tests. They are committed to France adhering to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
Nuclear power – both military and civilian – creates major insecurity on our planet, as further underlined by the war unveiled by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
However, thanks to the entry into force on January 22, 2021 of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), nuclear weapons are illegal under international law. Adopted by 122 states at the UN in 2017, the TIAN prohibits the possession, manufacture, use and threat of use of nuclear weapons, hence the strategy of “nuclear deterrence”.
A treaty that the nine nuclear powers and their allies refuse to consider in defiance of respect for international democracy and their own commitments made in particular within the framework of the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), whose tenth Review Conference is currently taking place at UN Headquarters in New York, from August 1 to 26, 2022.
Indeed, Article VI of the NPT, which came into force in 1970, requires member states to “undertake[r] to pursue negotiations in good faith on effective measures relating to the cessation of the nuclear arms race at an early date and to nuclear disarmament”.
From August 6 to 9, these four days of action will also be an opportunity to question Emmanuel Macron, who has just announced a new increase in military spending, 13% of which is devoted to the maintenance and renewal of the nuclear arsenal. ; i.e. 5.3 billion euros in 2022.
More than 12,700 nuclear bombs threaten humanity!
And 1,800 are on alert, ready from 15 minutes. France has 290 nuclear bombs and a submarine is permanently ready to fire the equivalent of 1,000 Hiroshima bombs.
This year, 14 Fasting-Action sites on 4 continents are waiting for you, come generously!
