In LuxemburgThe boulevard of Kyiv will still change a lot
LUXEMBOURG – The director of Ponts et Chaussées responds to the controversy reported by déi Lénk Stad on the absence of trees along Kyiv Boulevard. The new street will be well planted.
A press release from déi Lénk Stad, transmitted in the night from Saturday to Sunday, had detected a small controversy in the capital. The elected representatives of the left deplored a brand new boulevard in Kyiv, put into service last Sunday, devoid of trees and too mineral to withstand the heat waves which will continue to multiply. However, the N40, or new N3, will not remain in its current state.
“For once, we did the infrastructure before the urban development”, explains to The essential , Roland Fox, director of the Administration des Ponts et Chaussées. “But we are well aware that we don’t just want to make a road for individual traffic, but also urban elements to accompany it in an adequate way”. The road is in “a kind of industrial wasteland. On one side we have old CFL buildings that we demolished, then a sidewalk, two lanes for cars, the tram and another sidewalk with a cycle path”. With the only greenery, for the moment, the grass between the rails of the tram.
“There will be trees”
But the area around the boulevard will be completely redeveloped. “We are in a new district, which must be planned”, resumes Roland Fox. “The city will have to adopt special development plans drawn up by the owners of the land. Everything that is missing from the boulevard will be fitted out in the future”.
And, if the appearance of these developments is not yet known, one thing is certain: “There will be trees along this axis”, insists the director of Bridges and Roads. “There will be some on both sides where possible, and on the tram side elsewhere. We just preferred not to provide trees between the tram and the road”.
In what time frame? Hard to say. It depends on the different procedures for drawing up and voting on the PAPs… “On the CFL side of the boulevard, we are imagining things more suited to the character of the capital. But the ideas are not yet mature enough”, Roland Fox.
