Index – Abroad – Péter Szijjártó: As long as the war lasts, the danger of the outbreak of a nuclear conflict is constantly increasing
The Hungarian foreign minister said: the war poses a very serious security risk for Hungary.
Every minute that there is a war in Ukraine is a significant security risk. It also risks physical risk, economic risk, and energy security
said Péter Szijjártó.
He also added that Hungary has already accepted 870,000 refugees, and then called on the international actors to work on ending the conflict as soon as possible.
An immediate ceasefire is achieved and peace negotiations begin. We believe that peace is the only solution to all aspects of the war in Ukraine
stated Péter Szijjártó.
He added that as long as the war lasts, the risk of a nuclear conflict is constantly increasing. Hungary has always been interested in helping the dialogue between the West and the East, as history has proven.
Péter Szijjártó also expresses that he considers it regrettable that the dialogue between the five permanent members of the UN Security Council is interrupted on the issue of nuclear disarmament, as this poses a great danger. “We wholeheartedly ask that the thread of negotiations be taken up again on the issue of nuclear disarmament,” said the head of the ministry.
Nuclear energy, on the other hand, is needed
this, in turn, speaks of how important it is to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
It is a cost-effective, climate-friendly and stable way of energy production,
which also helps Hungary to become independent from the global energy market – stated the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
He added: Hungary has been using nuclear energy for four decades, which is why Hungary is also building Paks 2. Péter Szijjártó emphasized that the use of energy should not be subject to any international sanctions, nor should international cooperation in this area be restricted.
Finally, Péter Szijjártó emphasized that the Paks 2 project is in line with international safety standards, and the same is expected of all other implemented projects. He added that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has the most important role in enforcing the regulations, but Hungary is also ready to take its part in “this joint force”, the foreign minister said at the end of his speech.
