Technological contracts ‘cool down’, but Portugal resists
It’s not all good news for information technology professionals. After two years, the beneficiary of strong growth in the sector, with an intensification of activity and registration, the current economic scenario looks like a tech industry may be pandemic-proof, but not pandemic-proof. Rising inflation, rising interest rates and reduced purchasing power increasingly overshadow the short-term outlook. As a concern with a possible recessionary scenario – which have been confirmed by the director general of the International Monetary Fund, Kristalina Georgieva – are leading technology entrepreneurs to ‘freeze’ hiring and even dismiss them for costs. Recruiters heard by Expresso refuse to talk about a crisis in the sector in Portugal. Argue that recruitment continues and the country retains the capacity to enable new investments and jobs. But he admits that the ‘cooling off’ countries that the sector is already going through in the United States and some European countries could spread.
