Portugal: One year to go until WYD Lisbon 2023
«See you in August 2023!» is the motto of the campaign that starts a countdown until August 1, 2023
Lisbon, Aug 01, 2022 (Ecclesia) – The Foundation World Youth Day (WYD) Lisbon 2023 launched today one to mark the “symbolic date of a young people” for the meeting that will bring together thousands of people from all over the world with Pope Francis, in Portugal.

The next international edition of WYD, an event promoted by the Catholic Church, takes place in Lisbon from the 1st to the 6th of 2023.
“One year before WYD Lisbon 2023, I renew the invitation to all Portuguese people to welcome youth from all over the world in our homes, villages, towns and cities”, says the president of the WYD Lisbon 2023 Foundation, D. Américo Aguiar.
The campaign includes a placement of billboards and “a strong presence in digital media”, to appeal “to the participation of all in this world meeting of young people”.
“On social networks, an action is taking place with the title ’30 days, 30 questions about WYD’, with the aim of also raising doubts about this meeting. Also available is a Newsletter special on the occasion of this celebration”, adds a note from the foundation
Registration for WYD Lisbon 2023 starts after the summer and information about the process will be available on the official website, lisbon2023.org.
CTT – Correios de Portugal joins the Lisbon 2023 World Youth Day and marks this date with the issuance of two stamps and a philatelic block, where “the main threads of WYD are presented”.
In total, 150,000 stamps and 20,000 blocks were released that “will spread a message from this Journey around the world, through the postal services of the post office”, indicates the JMJ Lisbon 2023 Foundation.
“The CTT, which also invites an image of the philatelic block and that is going to the image of the philatelic block of Android world for this Journey”, adds a note.
Throughout this week, the ECCLESIA Agency will inform the Ecclesia programs on Antena 1 and RTP2 and on the information portal about the ongoing preparation for the meeting, in August 2023: this Friday, spoken with the host dioceses (Lisbon , Santarém and Setúbal); Tuesday, Duarte Ricciardi, executive secretary of the WYD Local Organizing Committee; on Wednesday, Margarida Mania explains how the young participants were welcomed and talks about the volunteers for this meeting of participants; on Thursday, Mariana Frazão referred to the pastoral, the messages that will mark various initiatives; on Friday, Ana Alves talks about the campaign that marks the countdown that is now starting, one year away from WYD; and this Sunday, in the 70×7 program, D. Américo Aguiar, president of the JMJ Lisbon 2023 Foundation, anticipates expectations for the week of the World Youth Day.
As WYD religious they are known throughout the world by young people of all editions.
WYD was born on the initiative of Pope John Paul II, after the success of the meeting held in 1985, Rome, during the International Year of Youth.
The first edition took place in 1986, in Rome, followed by the cities of Buenos Aires (1987), Santiago de Compostela (1989), Czestochowa (1991), Denver (1993), Manila (1995), Paris (1997), Rome ( 2000), Toronto (2002), Cologne (2005), Sydney (2008), Madrid (2011), Rio de Janeiro (2013), Krakow (2016) and Panama (2019)
