Météo Bretagne takes stock of a record month of July
Never had such high temperatures been recorded in our region for the month of July. “The temperature readings remain in the annals. We have greatly exceeded the normal for the season and this, in the four departments”emphasizes Steven Tual of Weather Brittany. In Morbihan, around Vannes, the seasonal average is around 23 degrees. This year, it is 28 degrees, or 5 degrees higher than in previous years. “It’s as if we had found ourselves in the streets of Bordeaux or Toulouse.”
A 7-day heat wave
The peak of heat is established in mid-July, between the 11th and the 19th and in particular on Monday the 18th when the temperature records were beaten everywhere in the region. The record was recorded that day in Ille-et-Vilaine, in Bléruais, where he made 41.6 degrees.
Some have tried to take refuge further west, hoping to find a bit of freshness… but in Finistère too, it was very hot. “On the Brest side, we had exceptional temperatures all month. We noted a first burst of hot weather between July 9 and 13, then a big heat wave on July 18.” That day, 39 degrees are recorded in Brest and even up to 40 degrees on the Avers coast.
A lack of rain
“It’s a catastrophic month of July in terms of rainfall”, says Steven Tual. According to the specialist, he has no more in Brittany since June 29. “It takes a millimeter for us to consider that a day has been rainy. In July, and throughout the region, it has never been noted. It has therefore been more than a month since it has rained, strictly speaking.” And spies are no good. No precipitation is expected before August 15 in the region.
Despite a drop in temperatures in recent days, hot weather is expected from the start of the week.
