DFB Cup: Cologne and Leverkusen make a fool of themselves in the 1st round – RHEIN OUT! | Sports
The first cup sensation of the new season is perfect! And they affect two big clubs that come from the Rhineland.
RHINE OUT! Leverkusen and Cologne blame each other to the bone in the first round.
Elversberg – Leverkusen 4:3
The Bundesliga club lost 3: 4 at third division promoted Elversberg. The Champions League club shows a disastrous performance in Saarland!
Rochelt with a super solo (3rd) and Koffi with a penalty (17th/Aranguiz fouled Rochelt) scored early for the outsider. Leverkusen’s newcomer Hlozek (5th goalkeeper error by Kristof) and Aranguiz after a fine combination (30th) equalize twice for the big favorite.
But Leverkusen continue to make a fool of themselves!
Schnellbacher ended a lightning-fast attack by the Elversbergers and made use of the top team’s poor defensive performance (37′). Champions League participants Leverkusen conceded three goals in one half against a third division promoted!
The decision for the blatant outsider came in the 74th minute: Conrad was completely free to head in. For one thing, the Leverkusen stars don’t even begin to show a reliable attitude in defense.
The 3:4 by Schick (89th) comes too late. This completes the embarrassment! The last time Leverkusen were knocked out in the first round of the cup was in 2011/12 (3-4 aet against Dresden).
Regensburg – 1. FC Cologne 6: 5 nE
The second big Rhine club also goes swimming!
Cologne goes out in a penalty shoot-out at second division Regensburg. The fire is missing from the beginning!
Albers heads the Bavarian club (two second division wins to start) early in the front (18th). And it gets worse for FC! Owusu completed a counterattack eight minutes later (27′). Cologne completely off the roll!
But then comes Uth immediately! The striker takes heart from 20 meters half-right position. In the corner! dream goal! Only 2: 1 (28th)! Ljubicic even makes it 2-2 (63′). After that, Cologne really pushed for victory, but the goal didn’t fall anymore.
In the penalty shootout then the fiasco for Cologne! Chabot and Ehizibue miss at FC, only Saller for Regensburg. With Cologne, the second Rhine club is also making a fool of itself!
Curious: Two years ago, Cologne were eliminated in the round of 16 in Regensburg with exactly the same result (5:6 on penalties). At that time, however, the Bundesliga club had led 2-0.
Cologne’s head of sport Christian Keller (43): “The resignation sucks, it wasn’t the plan in terms of sport or business. We left euros behind.”
Bayreuth – HSV 1: 3 a.e.t
That was close!
HSV could have almost added another game to its disgrace collection. In front of 14,700 spectators at third division newcomer Bayreuth, the favorite for promotion to the Bundesliga won a difficult 3-1 after extra time.
When conceding a goal, the Hamburgers have mega bad luck! The HSV wall deflected a low, violent Hemmerich shot from 20 meters into Heuer Fernandes’ own goal, which was unstoppable for Heuer Fernandes – the 1-0 for the outsider (16th).
Despite top-class HSV chances, nothing will change! Only new signing Königsdörffer redeemed Hamburg when he pushed the ball into the empty goal (83rd).
In the extra time, HSV finally pulls its head out of the noose. Schonlau made it 2-1 after a corner from the crowd (97th). Königsdörffer puts together the brace, 3:1. At the latest after the yellow-red card for Groiß (113th), it is clear that HSV is in round two!
After the 0: 1 in the league against Rostock, HSV just managed to end the first mini-crisis of the season. And Bayreuth missed the second cup sensation in the club’s history by a hair’s breadth. In 1980, the game association threw out the great FC Bayern in the third round.
Luebeck – Rostock 1:0
The third sensation of the day is at VfB Lübeck!
The fourth division beat the surprise club out of the second division with a late goal. Gözüsirin makes the green-whites happy in the 78th minute! Rostock, on the other hand, experienced a severe setback after the unexpected victory at HSV (1-0).
Unpleasant scenes after the final whistle: Around 50 of the 2,800 Hansa fans who had traveled with them stormed the square out of frustration and were pushed back by the police. In addition, some Rostock pros are against the chaotic.
Wernigerode – Paderborn 0:10
No chance for the fifth division!
After only eleven minutes it is already 2-0 for Paderborn. Justvan (7th) and Leipertz give the second division team an early lead. With Pieringer’s 3-0 (40th minute), everything was already decided before half-time.
Then it gets really bitter for Wernigerode: Keeper Helmstedt lets a harmless ball from Justvan slip through his hands and legs – 4:0 (47th). Srbeny (49′), Pieringer (50’/53′), Leipertz (58′) and Tachie (66’/90’+1′) make it 10-0.
Wernigerode conceded six goals in 18 minutes!
Illertissen – Heidenheim 0:2
Lackluster performance by Heidenheim.
The second division, which started the league with two wins, wins 2-0 at the regional league club. Mainka heads in a corner from Beste (57′), followed by Beck after a great solo by Pick (80′).
Kickers Offenbach – Fortuna Dusseldorf 1: 4
The second division prevails! André Hoffmann (34th) and Kristoffer Peterson (54th) score for Fortuna, Jakob Lemmer gives the regional league (57th) hope again. But in the end, Kickers Offenbach missed the sensation. Daniel Ginczek (71st/79th) makes everything clear in the end.
Stuttgarter Kickers – SpVgg Greuther Furth 2:0
Embarrassing end for Bundesliga relegated Fürth. An early goal by Denis Zagaria (8th) and a late goal by David Braig (88th) brought the Oberliga team a big surprise. The second division disappointed across the board, but Itter quickly scored an own goal (37th).
Carl Zeiss Jena 0-1 VfL Wolfsburg
Omar Marmoush saves VfL Wolfsburg in injury time. The striker hits his head and prevents overtime and the possible end of the cup. The new Wolves coach Niko Kovac can breathe deeply, his competitive debut still had a happy ending.
