Statistics: Over 40,000 Central Bohemians live outside of normal housing
Of the ten and a half million inhabitants living in the Czech Republic, a quarter, 25.8 percent, belongs to the Central Bohemian Region together with Prague. This is shown by the results of last year’s census, which the Czech Statistical Office has recently published in great detail in this category. Among other things, it informs that 1.4 million people applied for housing in the Central Bohemian Region, while 1.3 million in the capital.

On website of statisticians, anyone interested can find in detail where and how many people live – within various territorial units up to the level of individual municipalities; Alternatively, you can also download data for your own processing.
The vast majority of people live in ordinary apartments, whether they are apartment buildings or family houses. Other people are accommodation facilities of various types – for example, hostels, homes for the elderly, social care facilities, student dormitories and the like. Apart from apartments and accommodation facilities, at the time of the census, a quarter of a million people lived (but lived with a roof over their heads). For example, people who stay in cottages all year round.

3,276 people were actually counted as homeless with active participation in the census; of these, 611 were in Prague and 220 in the Central Bohemian Region. Most of them were recorded in Příbramsk (33), Mladoboleslavsk (30) and Kladensk (25). On the contrary, the least, only five, in Rakovnick. In all other districts, the numbers are already in the double digits.
From the point of view of the housing structure, Prague is unique throughout the country. Of all the regions, the metropolis had the highest share of residents living in apartments – and the lowest share of residents outside apartments and facilities. However, within the inter-regional comparison, the differences are not significant. Of the 1,300,821 people living in the metropolis, 1,261,930 people (97 percent) were counted in apartments and 23,624 in facilities. There were 15,2657 persons outside these categories.
