Lower word speed measured in Brussels thanks to zone 30 | Brussels
Brussels RegionAt the beginning of last year, zone 30 was started in the capital. A first positive effect was the reduction in speed in Brussels. This trend will continue in 2022.
Since the introduction of zone 30, a settlement procedure has been recorded for the speed in Brussels. Collected data from the Lidar speed traps also showed a decline in the first five months of 2022. And that for all roads, these restrictions are up to 30 kilometers per hour from 50.
“If cars are not speeding, people will rather consider short written on foot, by bicycle or by public transport rather than by car,” said Brussels Mobility Minister, Elke Van den Brandt (Groen). “We see that more Brussels residents feel more comfortable walking or cycling through our streets, and I’m happy about that.”
The zone 30 also leads to other positive effects. “In addition, the reduction in height, with a significant reduction in noise in the Brussels Region, which is also our good and quality of life”, concludes the minister. According to Brussels Mobility, the reduction in time has not had any significant effects on the travel times of road users. It remained more or less stable.
