A giant fresco on the Saint-Pierre bridge in Toulouse –
While the Saint-Pierre bridge in Toulouse is closed to vehicle traffic during the summer holidays, artists draw a giant fresco on the floor of the building.
In the colors of summer. While the Saint-Pierre bridge in downtown Toulouse is closed to motorists until Monday August 22, the municipality of the Pink City has appointed two artists to draw a giant fresco on the ground. of the building.
Benjamin Stoop and Nicolas Delpech are part of the collective atelier deux mille. This project was named to them at the beginning of June. And after the closure of the Saint-Pierre bridge to traffic on Monday July 18, they began to paint the bitumen. Their work, called “Crossing”, can be spread over an area of 2,500 m2.
“We used a decoupage technique. We cut out shapes and then recomposed them on a table to create this work,” says Nicolas Delpech in the columns of The Midi Dispatch.
More than an aesthetic function for the fresco of the Saint-Pierre bridge in Toulouse
The idea of the fresco is to make the Saint-Pierre bridge in Toulouse more attractive by dressing it in its summer habits. A friendly space is thus set up with, for example, picnic tables, deckchairs and games for children.
In addition to an aesthetic function, the fresco, which illustrates a kind of abstract Garonne, allows the temperature to be subjected to the bridge. Indeed, the light-colored paint makes it possible to better reflect the rays of the sun.
As a reminder, traffic will then be open to motorists from Tuesday 23 August. But from 2023, their habits will once again be upset since a traffic lane of the Saint-Pierre bridge will simply be removed. It will be relayed by a two-way cycle path. Cars could only drive in one direction, from Saint-Cyprien to Place Saint-Pierre.
