“In my eyes, the best impact to achieve a movement of solidarity, it is in relevant challenges through sport”, confides Kiki Bermont, President of the association Channel of Life. This former soldier, who lives in Portet-sur-Garonne, at the gates of Toulousechallenged itself to achieve 25,000 abs in… six hours, Tuesday, July 26, 2022. With one objective: to pay tribute to his brothers in arms.
“2022 marks the 10th anniversary of the attack suffered by Loïc Liber in 2012. He is the only survivor of the attack on Mohammed Merah in Montauban, and is now a quadriplegic. But also the 30th anniversary of the injury to the fight of my friend, Xavier Le Draoullec, who jumped on a mine. Through this challenge, I want to show them that everything is possible with help and solidarity.”
The basis of the challenge
A challenge that the former soldier has been preparing for three months now. A first series of 100 abs, then 1,000, 5,000… until you reach 8,000 abs which he performs every day until July 26.
But the bar of 25,000 abs, Kiki Bermont admit it, he’s never gone this high. He wants to be careful when training. Because man is more fragile than a few years ago. “Two and a half years ago I had part of my colon removed. I remain fragile in this area.
However, this is not what prevents him from realizing his goal: “I will try to achieve his 25,000 abs. Half will be achieved through sport, and the second thanks to the fraternity and support that I would have by my side”.
6 hour challenge
The challenge will start on July 26 at 4 p.m.with a scheduled end for 22 hours. A total of 6 hours for 25,000 sit-ups. It will take place in a restaurant in Vias (Herault) with families, friends and guests by his side. “The event will be animated with music from the islands we come from with Loic Liber. There are also sportsmen, and the singer Daniel Guichard who supports our event,” says Kiki Bermont.
And soon… a funny “Diagonale des fous”
After his challenge 25,000 absthe former soldier will fly away in October to the Reunion Island for “The Diagonal of Fools”. A big raid in which he will participate with his association, Canal de vie: “We will carry out this course by carrying quadriplegic people. We want to show them that anything is possible.”
