Street theater Heuer with tennis club comedy – salzburg.ORF.at
Culture
A dispute over the purchase of a new grill becomes a crucial test for a tennis club. This is how you can summarize the comedy “Extrawurst” that the Salzburg street theater has on the program this summer. Thursday evening was the premiere at the Stiegl Brewery.
Satire and humor come to the fore, but also xenophobia, prejudice and other shallows. The street theater wants to offer theater for reflection and laughter. Thursday evening was the premiere on the Stiegl Festwiese in Salzburg-Maxglan.
Audience involved as an extra
Storyline: It would actually be all over the place – the annual club meeting at the “Street Theater Tennis Club” is about to get into the cozy part when suddenly another question arises. Should the association buy its own grill for the only Muslim member. Even if the man doesn’t want his own grill.
The play “Extrawurst” by the German authors Dietmar Jacobs and Moritz Netenjakob, which premiered in 2019, deals with practical questions of integration and xenophobia. Other points of contention quickly come to the stage – always with a wink.
“Good comedy of this kind is rare”
The Tyrolean director Georg Clementi emphasizes that there are a lot of stupid comedies: “And there are a bunch of dramas about great topics. But a good comedy on a socially relevant issue is just a rarity. And use it belongs played.”
It is often played in the middle of the audience, who, as members of the tennis club, are part of the play. At the end, viewers are also asked to vote.
Appointments, guided tours in the countryside
After the premiere, the street theater started its tour through the province of Salzburg. The mobile theater wagon is on the road today until August 7th.
