Red Bull Salzburg after the start of the season: “Not everything is perfect yet” – football
With a little more effort than expected, but in the end very confidently, FC Red Bull Salzburg got the start of the competitive game of the 2022/23 season behind them.
For a long time, the “Bulls” led “only” 1-0 at the Tyrolean regional league team SV Fügen and repeatedly despaired of the Zillertal keeper, Patrick Schiestl. Only two late goals allowed Salzburg to celebrate a clear 3-0 win (match report>>>).
“Everything wasn’t perfect yet, especially the evaluation of chances and the last pass. The result could have been a lot better, but it was again good preparation for the start of the league next week. The most important thing is that we’re one round ahead. ” , Max Wöber, who was playing left-back this time and cut a good figure in this position, draws a positive conclusion to “ORF”.
Salzburg went into the game “as if it were a Champions League game”
Wöber does not accept the accusation that the Mozartstadters were too casual due to the quality of the opponent over stretches of the game: “Of course there is a class difference, but it was clear to us that we would go in as if it were a Champions League game would. Our clear goal is to win the trophy again. It also means winning against a third division team.”
The fact that Salzburg found it so difficult in the Zillertal was also due to their opponents’ performance. The team from Fuegen didn’t hide, especially at the beginning, and in the person of Matteo Steiner they even had a great chance of an early lead, and they also showed an extremely committed defensive performance.
“Big compliments to the opponent. The way they fought back for 90 minutes deserves respect. We struggled to get the ball rolling. The goalkeeper had a great day. But all in all it was a deserved win,” Matthias Jaissle draws hat to SV Fügen and keeper Schiestl.
Fügen keeper Schiestl: “A highlight”
The 28-year-old Tyrolean goalkeeper repeatedly made the top-class “Bullen” attacker despair in front of goal, but after a serious goalkeeping error he also made it 1-0 for Salzburg through Benjamin Sesko.
After the game, Schiestl doesn’t take his mistake too seriously: “Even world-class goalkeepers make mistakes, so as an amateur I’m allowed to make mistakes.”
Much more important for him is the performance of his team, but also that of the frenetic Zillertal audience. “The atmosphere was unbelievable. Playing against such a team in front of such a crowd is a highlight for us. We are very happy with the result. I’m really happy with the entire team. Hats off!” said Schiestl.
Jaissle: “Guys not at 100 percent yet”
While Schiestl and Co. start in the Regionalliga Tirol with the championship against SC Kundl in a week’s time, champions Salzburg have a duel with Wiener Austria at the start of the Bundesliga.
Before that, however, the Mozart city-dwellers will meet Holland’s champions Ajax Amsterdam in a friendly in Saalfelden on Tuesday. At the end of July, the great Liverpool FC will be coming to the city of Mozart for a test match, only then will the Salzburg summer preparations be officially over.
At the moment, “many guys aren’t at 100 percent yet,” reveals Jaissle, who sees some catching up to do, especially in games against low-lying teams.
In this regard, the cup game in Fügen was a good dress rehearsal. “We take away from the game that we have to persevere and against a deep block. One will often await us in the league.”
