Between fireworks and firemen’s balls, the atmosphere was festive for a big Lyonnais party on the evenings of 13 and 14 July.
For others, on the other hand, the national holiday was once again an opportunity to commit urban violence: garbage can fires, vehicle fires, mortar fire, police attacks…
400 police mobilized, 54 vehicles burned
Many cases were still refused despite the important security measures put in place. There are indeed 400 police officers who were mobilized throughout the metropolis of Lyon, in coordination with teams of firefighters, in order to limit these usual overflows of July 14 as much as possible.
Hostilities were triggered the night before, July 13, with around forty cars burned in the metropolis. In total, over the two evenings, 54 vehicles were set on fire, report Progress. One less than in 2021.
A group of ten people also attacked a police rescue team in the 6th arrondissement. An agent, hit in the eye by a firework mortar, had to be transported to the Edouard Herriot hospital.
At least five police custody are in progress. According to information from Actu Lyon, the number of designated arrests is higher than last year, while the number of incidents linked to urban violence is down significantly.
