Juniors from Dukla Brno, Jakub Vajbar, Matěj Hytych and Jakub Malášek finished fifth in the team sprint, the European title was won by the Germans.
The moment of the Brno youngsters is to come in individual disciplines. “I would be happy if we collected something, but Kuba Malášek sprained his ankle on the way to training, hopefully it will be good,” mentioned the coach of the junior national team, Zdeněk Nosek, about the lap of the junior vice-champion of the world in keirin. “Nobody looks bad, but it’s racing. We can predict something, prove it on the track,” added Nosek.
In the under-23 category, Dukla Brno is represented by Jakub Šťastný and Veronika Jaborníková at the European Championship. “Cuba is going to the U23 for the last time, it would be nice if he could transform his experience. Of course, the most beautiful thing is the medal, although it does not always mean that the race was great. I expect a nice stabilized performance from him, tactically mastered maturely, without any mistakes. He has a lot of junior medals, the title of world champion, he should use his experience in the 23rd. He always liked a solid guy who didn’t ride in Europe for several years, because, for example, because of the team sprint, it didn’t fit into our schedule for him to race five days straight. He could prove himself there this year,” Lubomír Vojta, coach of the under-23 national team, looked forward.

Veronika Jaborníková can still compete in this category next year. “You can see a lot of progress with Verča, today he can react to the situation in the race. I believe that he is performing at least the personal records that he has stepped on from the last trainings and training sessions in Slovenia. That gave her self-confidence, she certainly has the best performance she’s ever had,” added Vojta.
The European Championship in Anadia, Portugal will last until Tuesday.
