Closing of the railway line between Frankfurt and Bad Vilbel begins | hessenschau.de
The railways have been building a major project between Frankfurt-West and Bad Vilbel since 2017, and now they have to close the entire route. With serious consequences for the S-Bahn, regional and long-distance traffic until September 4th.
On Saturday begins what Deutsche Bahn itself has called a “serious cut” in its traffic: the complete closure of the railway line between Frankfurt-West and Bad Vilbel (Wetterau) until September 4th.
In addition to the S6, this also affects regional and long-distance traffic, which is to be upgraded as a result of the expansion: when the timetable changes in December 2023, four trains should be able to travel in parallel on the currently double-track route. As a result, the S-Bahn should be “more reliable, more punctual and run at a regular pace,” says the railway. If construction had been ongoing since 2017, full closure is necessary for the next construction phase – and that has far-reaching consequences.
Two replacement buses for the S6
The S6 does not run between Frankfurt West and Bad Vilbel for the entire eight weeks, and it also does not run between Bad Vilbel and Groß-Karben at the weekends. Instead, two rail replacement services operate with buses.
The S6X express bus runs daily between Bad Vilbel and Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, stopping only in Bad Vilbel, Bad Vilbel Süd and Konstablerwache in Frankfurt. The regional bus S6E runs between Groß Karben, Bad Vilbel, Frankfurt West and stops near each S-Bahn station. For the Frankfurter Berg and Eschersheim stations, the bus stops at the Preungesheim, Hügelstraße and Bockenheimer Warte stops at the underground station.
The regional traffic ended in Hanau
In regional traffic, there are longer travel times and diversions via Hanau. Due to limited track and platform capacities, many regional trains do not go through to Frankfurt but end in Hanau. Here travelers in the direction of Frankfurt have to change to the S-Bahn or other regional trains.
Detours in long-distance traffic
In long-distance traffic, the ICE on the Hamburg-Kassel-Frankfurt-Karlsruhe line will be diverted via Hanau and Frankfurt Süd. There will be no stops in Frankfurt West and Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof. The trains of the IC connection Münster-Dortmund-Siegen-Frankfurt begin and end mainly in Friedberg and are omitted between Friedberg and Frankfurt.
Hundreds of thousands of passengers are affected by the closures. A railway spokeswoman commented on the hr request: “We have to go through it so that it finally gets better afterwards.”
