Ukraine is interested in its oil refining and intends to rebuild it after the war – the head of the Ministry of Energy
After the war, Ukraine will return to the restoration of the oil refining industry, which was almost completely destroyed by the forces of the Russian Federation, counting, in particular, on the participation of foreign investors, plans Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.
“The Russians destroyed almost everything related to oil refining in Ukraine. But we understand that we have low opportunities to invest in oil refining, we need it. And, accordingly, after the war, it will be necessary to either rebuild the old plants or implement new projects.” – Report to Galushchenko during the international conference on the recovery of Ukraine (Ukraine Recovery Conference, URC2022) in Lugano (Switzerland).
At the same time, the minister estimated that “Ukraine should become a successful example of using the best technologies available in the world in the energy sector.”
In general, as clarified by the press service of the ministry, Galushchenko presented in Lugano some investment projects in various branches of the Ukrainian energy industry for a total amount of more than $120 billion.
He named nuclear, renewable and hydropower, production of water and biofuels, projects to increase the flexibility of the energy system and construction of maneuvering capacities, development of power grids and energy and infrastructure, gas production and transportation, development of oil transport and oil refining infrastructure as the main areas for investment in the energy sector of Ukraine.
