Two examinations at once. They effectively detect cancer in Bohunice
It is gentler, more accurate and will cost you two. Doctors at the Brno University Hospital are now being helped by a new hybrid diagnostic machine that performs two examinations in one scan – full-scale tomography and scintigraphy. This will improve and speed up diagnostics, especially in oncology patients.

Thanks to one examination instead of two, the patient will be exposed to less radiation than during a normal examination. Thanks to the very sensitive detection of drugs used in the fight against tumors, the device can better evaluate the effect of treatment in oncology patients.
“We are a bit further, not only in the comfort provided for patients, but mainly in the expansion of the complex diagnostics of the necessary procedures for the multidisciplinary specialized center that the Brno University Hospital is,” said hospital director Ivo Rovný.
The Brno phenomenon celebrates 30 years: Bohunice theaters have experienced hundreds of thousands of operations
The device called Intevo Bold for almost forty million crowns is used not only in oncology but also in cardiology. It has reflex sights that are four times more effective than the methods used so far.
“This way, they can magnify the heart during scanning for a better evaluation. Thanks to the greater sensitivity of the system, the examination can be significantly shortened or the patient’s radiation exposure can be reduced by up to three quarters,” said Marek Mechl, Deputy for Strategy and Laboratory Medicine at the Bohun Hospital. By measuring blood flow to the heart, the degree of hardening of the heart vessels can also be determined at the same time. Cardiologists will thus receive far more accurate results needed for patient diagnosis and treatment.
