Slovakia will become the first member of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Committee – For Reading – Culture
The 9th session of the General Assembly of the Parties to the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage has been taking place in Paris since yesterday. Today was an important day for the Slovak Republic, because we were candidates for the Intergovernmental Committee for Intangible Cultural Heritage (MV NKD).

After today’s meetings of the 9th General Contracting Parties to the Convention, SR (94 out of 144 valid votes) and Uzbekistan (105 votes) were elected to the NKD Committee for the regional Eastern European group. Estonia (64 votes), Bulgaria (26 votes) and Bosnia and Herzegovina (9 votes) also ran for this group.
Slovakia will thus become a member of the 24-member NKD committee for the first time in history. He will assume his 4-year mandate on November 28, 2022 during the 17th session of the NKD Committee in Morocco. Slovakia will be represented in the NKD Committee by expert Ľubica Voľanská from the Institute of Ethnology and Social Anthropology of the SAS.
The Intangible Heritage Committee is the younger twin of the well-known World Heritage Committee, which, however, includes various traditions, social customs, rituals, ceremonial events and customs, as well as traditional crafts, on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
The negotiations for the Slovak Republic were led by Mrs. Anna Plassat Muríňová, Grand Slanka at the Permanent Delegation of the Slovak Republic to UNESCO, with the assistance of Mrs. Jarmila Freaud from the Permanent Delegation of the Slovak Republic to UNESCO. The Slovak delegation was represented by Radoslav Ragač, DG of the Cultural Heritage Section of the Ministry of the Slovak Republic, Juraj Hamar, DG of SĽUK and Barbora Morongová, an expert on intangible cultural heritage.
