Military aid to Ukraine – the Bundestag is demanding the provision of 200 armored personnel carriers
The petition of the parliamentary group, which the publication has seen, refers to the resolution on the provision of heavy weapons to Ukraine, which was adopted together with the traffic light coalition in the Bundestag at the end of April.
“For the Ukrainian army, this is a matter of quick delivery of reliable materials that can be used on the front line. Such material is in service with the Bundeswehr and must be removed using the Bundeswehr: the Fuchs armored transport vehicle,” the proposal reads.
Inspector General Eberhard Korn said that he does not see the possibility for such military assistance to Ukraine.
The Bundeswehr has 825 Fuchs transport tanks, but in different modifications:
- radar carriers,
- jamming tanks,
- personnel carriers,
- NBC armored reconnaissance vehicles
- medical options, to name a few.
“We need these cars. I don’t see any possibility of giving up these cars or their parts at this time,” said Korn.
It should be noted that the Fuchs armored personnel carrier was developed in the 1970s by the Thyssen-Henschel company and adopted by the Bundeswehr in 1979. The armored personnel carrier has a load-bearing welded body that provides anti-bullet protection and protection from small fragments.
