International Photography Contest Wiki Loves Earth Portugal 2022
Wikimedia Portugal organizes in July and local flora with other countries organized, an international photography contest of protected spaces and local fauna. The aim is a natural heritage of the world, under the aim of a free license, in order to allow common licenses to all Wikimedia articles and to illustrate the respective encyclopedic articles on Wikipedia. This year, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Humans, the contest has as its theme or impact of human action on natural heritage.
Wiki Loves Earth is an annual contest organized by the Wikimedia Movement, part of Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons, that aims to awaken natural landscapes and wildlife around the world. Nature photographs and study month, photographers and guests to share, so that you reserve a book month on all Wikimedia projects and study to illustrate enpedic articles of an educational nature on Wikipedia, as well as other educational purposes during Wikipedia .
This year, as part of the #Wiki4HumanRights campaign established in partnership with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rightsthe global special contest for the best photo or impact of human actions on the environment.
Additionally, also this year, a new special category is created, oceans, for photos of marine life and habitats, in collaboration with CIIMAR – Interdisciplinary Center for Marine and Environmental Research. This category will have a special trophy for the best photos alluding to the theme.
The competition takes place in two distinct phases: in a first phase, the national winners are selected and awarded; in a stage up the winners second by selection among the
best in each country. In Portugal it will be awarded as three best photos, with a special mention for the best photo of a species of Portuguese flora or fauna. Competitors are asked to respect the natural habitat when taking pictures.
The first edition of the contest took place in 2013 in Ukraine and soon in the next contest it became international. In 2020, the contest involves 34 countries. In Portugal, the first edition took place in 2015, with later editions in 2018, 2019, Since 20, 201 and now in 2022. Since the first edition in Portugal, 2000 participants with about 80 photos.
In this year’s edition, the photos in the competition must be defined between 1st and 31st of Julyfollowing the instructions available on the event website (https://wikilovesearth.wikimedia.pt/). The protected areas covered by the contest are shown on the map on the website, where it is also possible to discover which areas have not yet been photographed.
Each contestant can submit as many photographs as they want, as long as they respect the rules of the contest and Wikimedia Commons. All images must be owned by the participants and must be licensed under a free license. The photos may have been taken at any time, either in the month of July or in previous months or years.
