Camille Claudel told in a play
As part of the Festival Off d’Avignon, the theater company Element 139 is performing this Friday July 8 and Saturday July 9 a play based on the eventful life of the famous French sculptor Camille Claudel. “We tell his tragic destiny which is also destined for magic”, such is the description of the play Camilla, Camilla, Camilla by its director Jean-Pierre Texier.
This show, written by Sophie Jabès, focuses on the life of Camille Claudel, an internationally renowned sculptor and painter of the 19e and XXe century. First remained in the shadow of her brother Paul Claudel, famous poet, and her husband, also a sculptor, Auguste Rodin, she saw her work being highlighted from the 1980s only. “It’s very conceptual and interesting since we show discussions between three Camilles from three different eras”, explains Anne Texier, wife of Jean-Pierre, who plays the role of one of the three Camille Claudel. The show is provided by the theater company Element 139 created by the couple two years ago.
Two performances will take place this Friday July 8 and Saturday July 9 at 3 p.m. in the Camille-Claudel room, precisely, at the Montfavet hospital center, a place not chosen at random. “We want to perform this piece in places directly linked to the protagonist, develops Jean-Pierre Texier. From 1914 until his death in 1943, Camille Claudel was interned in the psychiatric asylum of Montfavet at the time, hence this authenticity to be played here”.
A conference before the show
One hour before the performance of the show, a conference will be held by André Castelli, elected to the Department. But it will be for his past experience as a psychiatric nurse at the Montfavet hospital that the latter will be present. It deals mainly with the dozen visits made by Paul Claudel to his sister, all listed and documented by the archives of the hospital center.
Entry at 15 euros. Reservation at 06.62.94.74.00.
