Toulouse: The Flight of the Pioneers is surrounded by Toulouse entrepreneurs for a new exhibition
This Monday, the L’Envol desPioneurs museum has forged five new partnerships with Toulouse companies in the aeronautics sector to design a temporary exhibition dedicated to Pierre-Georges Latécoère and innovation.
The cultural site of L’Envol despioneers formalized five new partnerships on Monday. Among them, a historic company, Latécoère, created in 1917 by Pierre-Georges of the same name, and four other young companies in the Toulouse aeronautical landscape. Together, they are designing an exhibition for the general public which will open in December 2022.
Before becoming partners, these actors were already in orbit around L’Envol des Pionniers. “We met thanks to the museum, because these people were known by the history of the pioneers of aeronautics and participated in our activities, says Christophe Chaffardon, the director of education, science and culture of the museum of Toulouse-Montaudran. One day, we decided to imagine a cultural project together”.
Innovation as a response to environmental challenges
The character of Pierre-Georges Latécoère will be at the heart of this exhibition. The first part will be devoted to the biography of this bespectacled entrepreneur who is essential to local industrial history and that of world aviation. Then visitors will follow a fun course during which they will imagine their own aeronautical project. The goal? Meet the environmental challenges of air transport, whose carbon footprint must be neutral in 2050.
The public will have to propose solutions to the following questions: what fuel to use? Which aircraft model should be favoured? How to optimize trajectories? “Our partners are pioneers on these issues, they build the content of the exhibition with us thanks to their industrial know-how,” explains Christophe Chaffardon.
If Pierre-Georges Latécoère was avant-garde in his way of designing new planes or organizing work, questions of environmental impact did not particularly guide his methods. “At the time, we were mainly looking to reduce the transmission time of information, confirms the educational director of the establishment. Today we want to allow people to meet physically thanks to the plane, but in such a way that it costs the planet as little as possible.
2018, The Flight of the Pioneers organizes cultural events around the airmail and its historic airmen, from Antoine de Saint-Exupéry to Jean Mermoz on its historic site. In addition to the temporary exhibition on Latécoère, these new partnerships are destined to continue in the other cultural activities of the museum.
