The first restrictions are in the cities!
It’s bad and it will get worse! Extreme drought is already destroying more than a third of Slovakia. The worst situation is in eastern Slovakia and in some places also in central Slovakia, where people have already been called to save with water because the water resources are drying up. There is still enough water in the west, the lack of infrastructure is no problem. Therefore, people’s interest in their own source of water increased enormously, waiting for a well to be dug extended to several months or even years.
Slovakia is drying up. According to the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMÚ), the soil moisture deficit is 99.5 percent of the total area of the republic. It is very dry in Rimavská Sobota, Čaklov and Milhostov-Trebišov. The precipitation deficit is the highest in Bardejov in the last 90 days, around minus 150 millimeters. Around 140 millimeters is missing in Podolínec, Švedlár and Prešov.

The most serious situation is current in central Slovakia, where they have already called on people to save. “The precipitation deficit, especially in many areas of central and eastern Slovakia, has been increasing since September last year,” says meteorologist Jozef Pecho. Banská Bystrica Banská Bystrica published a call for a temporary restriction on the use of drinking water for other purposes.
Residents should not water the garden and lawn with potable water. Playgrounds, road greenery and public spaces are also prohibited from watering. There is also a ban on washing cars, with the exception of cars for medical purposes, and it is also forbidden to fill swimming pools. The restrictions currently concern a total of 12 municipalities and towns under the jurisdiction of the water company in Zvolen and Žiar nad Hron, including Žarnovice and Nová Bane and Dudiniec, and 22 municipalities within the jurisdiction of the waterworks of the Banská Bystrica and Brezno districts.
