Here are the 2022 Michelin-starred restaurants in the Nordics – the Robb report
While the 4th of July is a big day in the US, it ended up being just as exciting in Scandinavia and other Nordic countries when the 2022 Michelin stars were announced for the region.
A total of 13 restaurants received new stars, a couple of which earned the recognition of “Excellent cooking, worth a detour” from the little red guide. Denmark‘s Frederikshøj and Finland‘s Palace both made it to Michelin’s two-star restaurants after receiving their first star in 2015 and 1987. This brings the number of two-Michelin-starred restaurants in the Nordics to 14.
Located in Århus, Frederikshøj serves playful dishes led by Wassim Hallal. The Michelin Guide singled out the restaurant’s sauces, saying inspectors were amazed by the turbot, which was lightly glazed with a tasty, velvety sauce. At the same time, at Helsingin Palace, Eero Vottonen prepares Nordic food with French and Japanese influences. While the reviewers were impressed with the menu as a whole, they highlighted a particular dish of raw shrimp, tomato and grilled jalapeño served with Palace caviar, sweet peas and an organic egg.
Elsewhere on the list, 11 restaurants got their first Michelin starincluding Icelandic ÓX, Norway‘s Hyde and Sweden’s Nour. Five new restaurants were added to the Bib Gourmand list and five new restaurants received the Michelin Green Star award, which recognizes places committed to sustainable gastronomy.
All in all, the restaurants in the Nordic countries shine quite brightly in the eyes of the Michelin guide. There are four three-star restaurants in the region’s five countries, of which 14 are two-star and 56 are one-star. That seems like more than enough reason to plan a trip to the region – even if you can only skim the surface of the thriving Nordic food scene.
