Woman Shocked After Dog Suffered Fatal Injury While Dog-Sat
A Maltese woman was shocked after her dog suffered a fatal injury while under the accusations of a dog sitter.
The story came after photos of the dog made a rounds on social media while the dog’s owner recounted the events.
On Tuesday morning, Claire Caruana left her eight-year-old Cocker Spaniel, Maggie, with a sitter while she went out for something.
“I found a dog sitter online, from Facebook groups. And she was happy to take care of the dog for me at her house while I went to the hospital for an appointment, ”she began.
Just half an hour after she left, however, Claire was contacted by the sitter, with the news that Maggie had suffered an ‘accident’ and ended up with a concussion.
“When I called, I could hear Maggie screaming in pain in the distance, and I knew something was seriously wrong. My sitter dog told me she had hit her head on a door while she was running. But I was stuck in traffic. I couldn’t get to her in time and so I asked her to meet me at the vet. “
In a state of panic, Claire went to the vet, where she found the pet sitter waiting for her, along with Maggie, who had extensive injuries to her head and body.
“But when the vet and I saw her, we couldn’t believe that such an injury was caused by a ‘love’ at a door.”
“She had a thick wound with a lot of blood.”
Maggie’s condition worsened over time. She fought for two full days until she finally gave in to her wounds.
“Leave my dog in the hands of a dog sitter, whom I trusted, and I never expected that to happen.”
Maggie’s death has raised serious questions among the community of animal activists in Malta, from whom they shared the story on the popular Facebook group RUBS Puppy Love focused on animals.
“What is being done to regulate pet sitters? Do they have the authority or even the necessary qualifications to supervise other people’s pets? Do they have the same credentials as shelter owners or can someone follow the dogs for a little money? ” asked one woman.
“You won’t have a wound like that from knocking on a door,” said another. “Pet sitters are not registered or qualified for work. So why continue to make these mistakes? ”
Currently, there are no laws governing dog sitters in Malta; the fact that Clare appealed to the authorities to take further action in this regard.[allalilClairetappellalill-awtoritajietbiextittieħedaktarazzjonif’danir-rigward
