Venice, a hub for logistics Italpress news agency
An urban variant to the intervention plan, to create a hub for logistics in the Dese area. The measure was presented in Mestre, the seat of the Town Hall in via Palazzo, in the presence of the municipal councilor for urban planning Massimiliano De Martin. The area covered by the works will concern two production sectors, sector C and sector D. The reduction in volume and height is foreseen, and the change of intended use. “This is a single intervention, albeit on two sectors that have a different situation because one has expired from an administrative point of view, while the other is still in force – said De Martin – We will make substantial changes from the point of view of the parametric indices urban planning, with a reduction in surfaces and heights. Sector C will go from 43,411 to approximately 23,600 square meters with a decrease of over 40 percent. For the D, on the other hand, the reduction will be around 20 per cent, from 43,000 to 37,500 square meters. As for the heights, the previous urban planning tool gave the possibility of reaching up to 45 meters, while now this limit is set at 25 “. “An important aspect – continued the commissioner – will be the complete review of the destinations. Until now, the issues issued for both sectors were: production activities, management activities, service to people, retail trade and public operators, repair services, private services for people and homes. With this variant, however, all these will be eliminated and only the logistics production sector will remain. The new hub will be a reference for incoming goods, also for its position near the entrance to the ring road “. The planned investment is 50 million euros, and it is estimated that the new logistics center will create 250 jobs, an aspect remarked by De Martin: “The employment figure is perhaps the most relevant of the whole project. Of the 250 jobs planned, 105 will concern the management of logistics in the warehouses, the other 145 will be in the field and organization. In this moment, in which many companies are looking for workers but cannot find any, it is important to create new employment opportunities “. During the conference it was also explained that there will be significant interventions on the mobility front, trying to facilitate the arrival in the area through public transport, and that the aim is to create buildings that are not energy-intensive. The urban variant will now have to be discussed in the City Council.
