Budapest – In the first half of this year, 68,965 imported passenger cars were put on the used market in Hungary, which is a 9.8 percent increase compared to the 62,836 units registered in the same period last year – JóAutók.hu reported Datahouse data to MTI on Monday.
Bertalan Halász, CEO of JóAutók.hu, drew attention to the fact that used car imports are still at a constant high level due to the limited supply of new cars, in the first half of the year only 57,000 new passenger cars were put on the market, 11 less than in the same period last year. .
The general manager highlighted that used car imports are also facing increasingly serious limitations, there are fewer and fewer quality used cars available in the countries of purchase, as due to supply problems, buyers there are also generating more demand than before.
In addition, the situation of Hungarian importers is further worsened by the euro exchange rate stuck at around HUF 400 – Bertalan Halász added.
The announcement indicates the changing trend, that in the second quarter almost 5 fewer used cars were imported into the country than in the first quarter. This year, June was the first month when the volume of imported cars did not reach the previous level. In the past month, 10,712 used cars received Hungarian license plates, compared to 11,851 in June last year.
According to the expectations of JóAutók.hu, the volume of imported used cars will be affected by the restraining of imports, which will reach last year’s level of 132,000. In the Újtó market, the shortage will continue in the coming months, the waiting lists for ordered new cars will only begin to shorten, which will continue to demand used cars, the announcement reads.
He explains that three brands – Volkswagen 11.6 years, Opel 10.2 years, Ford 8.6 years – account for more than thirty percent of the used cars imported by the first party this year, each of which has a 5-6 percent percentage. it is followed by Toyota, Audi, Hyundai, BMW and Mercedes.
Due to the decline in new car sales, there is a greater need for foreign used cars, which is why the forint-euro exchange rate is currently weaker for trading – emphasized Péter Tóth, Das WeltAuto Centrum’s sales director, in his statement sent to MTI.
According to the manager of a used car dealer with a national sales network of 30 members, the import of foreign used cars is driven by two factors. One is that the range of premium cars – such as high-performance, old-timers or luxury vehicles – is limited in Hungary, and there is a greater opportunity to buy them abroad. The other factor is the price sensitivity of Hungarian customers, and there is a greater choice in terms of prices abroad. However, this is misleading and can be risky, as even beyond the border, only those models that are problematic are available below the real price, noted Péter Tóth.
