The exhibition ’30 unforgettable women’ is exhibited until September at the Mercado de la Ribera in Bilbao
BILBAO, Jul 4. (EUROPE PRESS) –
Until September, Bilbao’s Ribera Market is hosting the exhibition ’30 emakume ahaztezin-30 unforgettable women’ organized by Emakunde-Basque Women’s Institute and which includes some thirty watercolors in which the artist Elena Ciordia portrays women who have excelled in different disciplines such as writing, bertsolaritza, painting, photography, sports, music, physics, politics, journalism, research or teaching.
These watercolors are complemented by other materials and audiovisual elements that offer information about the lives of these “women in the history of our country”, as explained by Emakunde.
Its director, Izaskun Landaida, has highlighted that “the lack of recognition to which they have been subjected for a long time has made women invisible in our memory, despite their great contribution to the construction of the world as we know it”.
For this reason, the exhibition intends to “pay homage to all of them, to those who stood out in different disciplines” and, in turn, also be a tribute “to those who made it possible to sustain life in other less socially recognized tasks”.
“Aware that there are many other women in history who deserve to be named and honored, the exhibition also wants to become a space for citizen contribution to their memory”, they have pointed out from the Basque Women’s Institute.
With this objective, the people who visit the exhibition are invited to propose more names of “women who deserve to be recorded: outstanding women in any field, reference women from their localities, even their families, and to tell their story “. This contribution can be made using the hashtag #unforgettable women #emakumeahaztezinak on social networks.
The women who are recognized in the exhibition are also included in the book ’30 emakume ahaztezin-30 Unforgettable Women’ published by Emakunde.
