FliXbus launches the first intercity e-bus service in Portugal
FlixBus has partnered with local operator Auto Viação Feirense to launch the first electric express bus in Portugal. Vila Real and Amarante stop on the way from the Bragança Bus Terminal to Porto. This is not the first time Flixbus has used (or tested) long-distance electric buses.
In Portugal, F Buss sought a zero bus from Yudong’s waiting that has 47 seats and a range of 350 km, three hours on the way. The service runs between Porto, on the coast, and Bragança, near the northern border of Spain.
“It’s a small step, but it represents a lot for sustainable mobility in Portugal”, said Pablo Pastica, General Manager of FlixBus for Portugal and Spain. “For FlixBus, we need to provide sustainable and affordable mobility to millions of people to continue the project.”
FlixBus discovered the update in Germany – Frankfurt the Mannheim link. However, the BYD bus soon began to experience problems. At the time, FlixBu CEO Fabian Stenger explained the phosphate battery so well and so many things on the BYD C9 had become susceptible to failure that “the bus had to stop for days and days that were inconvenient trips”. The company ended up canceling the route reported.
In California, Flixbus tested a bus From Motor Coach Industries (MCI) between San Francisco and Sacramento since 2019.
More recently, however, FlixBus moved to Freudenberg and ZF began providing hydrogen sources for low-emission intercity services. The three-year ‘HyFleet’ project is focused on developing a fuel cell capable of at least 35,000 hours of continuous operation. Another research focus is on other hybrid strategies for the powertrain, the so-called “right size” between fuel cell and battery.
“We are ready to be part of the HyFleet project for Europe’s first fuel-built long-distance bus so far from FlixMobility,” says André Schwämmle, co-founder and CEO of FlixMobility.
