After regular route chaos: Munich U9 is about to end | Regional
Munich – The delays in the main route could mean the end of the plans for the new U9 line in Munich.
The city is planning the line from Münchner Freiheit via the main train station to Implerstrasse: 10 kilometers long, six stations, completion in around 20 years.
The shell of a station is therefore to be built at the main station when the tunnel for the second main line of the S-Bahn is built – a so-called holding structure.
Problems: So far there has been no funding commitment from the Federal Ministry of Transport. The completion of the main line is said to be delayed by almost 10 years.
Mayor Dieter Reiter now says clearly: “Under these circumstances, I cannot recommend that the city council decide to build a 500 million-euro detention building.” .”
Reiter: “That would then be the deepest disco cellar in the city.” The city council is to decide on the holding structure in November.
If Munich does not agree to the shell, this would also cause a problem for the main line. The holding structure is part of the approved planning of the railway. In order to remove it from the plans, a plan change procedure would have to be initiated. This costs additional time.
Mayor Reiter is now warning the railways to disclose the costs and the timetable for the 2nd main line. However, there is no threat of a halt to construction, he says.
