Additional costs and delays in educational buildings
politics
The sharp rise in construction costs is causing problems for educational buildings in the city of Salzburg. A project worth millions, which should have started in June, has now been postponed by a year. Other planned buildings will also be considerably more expensive.
Actually, shortly before the end of the school year in June, the new construction of the all-day care for the Leopoldskron-Moos elementary school in the city of Salzburg should have started. But now the start of construction will probably have to be postponed by a whole year. The reason: The calculated construction costs have risen from 3.3 million euros to five million euros.
Temporary care in containers
The magistrate will now wait for next year and wait for the building prices to have normalized somewhat by then. For the elementary school children in Leopoldskron-Moos, this means that they have to stay in containers in the provisional all-day care facility for a year longer than planned.
Kindergarten Dossenweg: Opening 2025
In other educational building projects, on the other hand, the construction costs have already repeated themselves in the planning phase: for the kindergarten in the planned Dossenweg housing estate in Salzburg-Gneis, the city administration is now anticipating costs of five million euros instead of two and a half million euros. The project is still being pursued – the responsible municipal council committee decided this just last week. The opening of this kindergarten is planned for 2025.
