A Strasbourg student wins a pizza party for her class
SSRWS was one of nine provincial watershed stewardship associations participating in this year’s competition.
The Wascana & Upper Qu’Appelle Watersheds Association Taking Responsibility (WUQWATR) and the Saskatchewan Association of Watersheds (SAW) just held their annual Wetlands and Wildlife Poster Contest.
A student from Strasbourg, Rylee Cherepuschak, from the William Derby school won first place for the 5/6th year category for both the local competition and the provincial competition. Top prizes for Rylee included $500, a Mosaic-sponsored citizen science kit, and WUQWATR’s pizza night for her Strasbourg class. The pizza night sponsored by WUQWATR was a huge success, each kid got their own pizza and Rylee had a great time celebrating their victory.
“Well, I did a lot of research and when we were going out of town, there were wetlands and animals all around. It gave me ideas,” said Rylee, the competition winner. posters.
The South Saskatchewan River Watershed Stewards (SSRWS) was one of nine provincial watershed stewardship associations participating in this year’s competition.
“The theme for the 2022 poster competition was Wetlands and Wildlife,” says David Sloan, WUQWATR Board Chair. “Thank you to the students who submitted posters. It’s exciting to see parents, teachers and elementary school students engaged in preserving our watersheds.
There were two categories up for grabs. The categories were Years 3/4 and Years 5/6, the winners of these categories were then judged at the provincial level against the best posters from the other eight watershed stewards.
WUQWATR is a non-profit, community-based organization that focuses on source water protection in the Wascana and Upper Qu’Appelle watersheds that stretch from Regina to Humboldt and from Central Butte to Tyvan. It is one of the largest watershed stewardship areas in Saskatchewan, covering over 23,443 km2, including 109 communities.
