Viktor Marvin to stage “Family Scenes” at the Lithuanian Russian Drama Theater | Theatre
During the two-day festival, the audience saw sketches of performances based on plays by Ukrainian playwrights, significant directors Viktor Marvin, Yulia Aug and Ramune Kudzmanaite. Performance sketch by Marvin “Family Scenes” based on the play by Anna Yablonskaya, the well-deserved competition program and the new production will be the Russian Drama Theater of Lithuania in 2023, reportedly on the theater website.
Marvin explained why it was important for him to participate in this case.
“When the second phase of the war began on February 24, the question arose whether there was a place for the theater at all in conditions. Then I realized that I should do what he does best. Especially since the festival takes place in the Russian theater.
Russian actress and director Yuliya Aug, who has recently become the artistic director of Vaba Lava Narva, presented the play “The Oath Maidens” based on the play by Oleg Mikhailov in Vilnius.
Aug admitted that she took responsibility for what is happening in Ukraine, therefore, speaking on this topic in her work, she hopes at least some contribution to changing the attitudes of some people towards military events.
“In the past, I created a documentary in Estonia (“X ** wars” – approx. ed), the essence of which is the correspondence of messages with friends on social networks. This anti-war speech caused a great resonance both in Russia and among Russian-speaking residents of Estonia. I know that among them there are those who watched Putin, but I did not think that there were so many of them,” Aug.
Marvin is elected that there are people in Estonia who believe in Russian propaganda and do not change their attitudes.
“And this is absurd. We live next to each other, we look like people, but I believe that these are some other creatures. Unfortunately, no,” said Marvin.
The director believes that the play “Family Scenes” by Anna Yablonskaya, chosen by him, is especially relevant today.
“This play is applicable in the current context according to the events that have arisen. The action of the play takes place in Russia, in a small city, from where people go to fight in Ukraine, where particles of substances meet, where they kill, steal and return home, bringing washing machines to their homeland. First question: what kind of people are they, what kind of environment is this, and how did they come to such dehumanization?
