Slovakia will be protected by Czech fighters
According to recent information, fighters from the Czech Republic will head to Slovakia. Petr Fiala together with Eduard Heger informed about it during the extraordinary discussion of the show CT Questions of Václav Moravec. He was the first to bring the news Diary of N.
According to Fial, the protection of Slovakia is key, or an important interest of the Czech Republic, since Slovakia is directly adjacent to Ukraine.
Both Fiala and Heger claim that NATO provides countries with a unified roof over their heads and protection.
“The presence of Czech troops in Slovakia can strengthen our security, especially the eastern wing, its countries are aware of this. What they saw in Ukraine, that Russian troops fell and started destroying the infrastructure, killing the civilian population. Brutality clearly shows that we must build not on deterrence, but on physical defense. This will also apply to Finland and Sweden,” Heger expressed himself.
The moderator clarifies that a NATO unit is being formed in Slovakia under the command of the Czech Republic. The first 200 soldiers arrived in early April. According to the battle group, it should have reached full operational capabilities in September. Heger expects that the presence of Czech soldiers in Slovakia will be long-term.
“Knowing the new threat and its magnitude, it has been fitting for some time now as the setting of the territory of the entire defense of the European defense. We have to plan not for 3-4 years, but for 10, 20, 30, 50 years, in order to be able to guarantee the safety of the residents,” adds Heger.
In June, Slovakia asked the Czech Republic for help in protecting the airspace until it takes over the ordered American F-16 fighter jets.
“Undoubtedly, we will comply. I think it is a beautiful example not only of defense cooperation, but also of trust. We will help Slovakia until we have new planes available. And we count on the fact that someone will help us again if we have problems,” said Fiala. He emphasized that it is also in the interest of the Czech Republic, as Slovakia borders Ukraine, which is resisting the Russian invasion.
“I am very grateful that our countries are not only historically close, but also that relations are improving. You were one of the first to provide us with troops, now you will protect our airspace,” said Heger, who is quoted by the portal Novinky.cz.
Slovakia will be assisted by Czech fighter jets, which roughly estimates a year. At the same time, he admitted that it is also “in play” that the Slovak Republic would cede its miga to Ukraine. “But I don’t want to go into detail, because Ukraine also asked us not to specify this technique,” he added according to the ČT24 portal.
According to Heger, the American F-16 fighter jets ordered by the previous Slovak government were supposed to arrive by the end of 2024. However, the delivery was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic and the global shortage of chips. They are to replace the Russian MiG-29 machines.
