It’s a legendary car which is about to be auctioned near Toulouse. Sunday July 10, 2022, the auctioneer’s auction house Stanislas Macoira Montastruc-la-Councilloroffers a superb Ford GT40 produced at the end of the 1960s. Its price? €750,000. Just that !

A rare racing car

Not everyone will be able to line up. It must be said that this Ford GT 40 Mark III, chassis N° 1113, is estimated between 800,000 and 1,200,000 million euros. A price that is justified by the rarity of the model: seven to nine of these cars have been produced worldwide.

“Chassis ‘1113’ is the penultimate (or penultimate) GT40 Mark Ill produced.”

If the car saves more than one today, Stanislas Machoïr’s auction house recalls that this racing car was a “total commercial failure”. This sports car was far too difficult to use on the road. His steering wheel on the right does not help.

A first race in 2006

Before being put up for sale near Toulouse, the American has traveled quite a bit. “It was sold in 1970 or 1971 as a ‘bare chassis plus parts’ in the United States. She appeared in advertisements in 1974/1975 as ‘monocoque plus parts to finish’. It was then bought by a Greek collector in 1978,” explains Machoïr.

In 2003, the pilot Alain Schlesinger offers itself this jewel tired by the weight of the years. “It was then equipped with its Cosworth engine and its leather interior but it is incomplete, the ZF box being notably lacking”, details the auction house.

It will take three years and repairs to see this Ford GT40 make its first official outing for Track Days on the Goodwood circuit (United Kingdom). Still historic today, it is eligible for the trials. Notice to fans…
