Mountain test: With an electric truck on the Grossglockner
environment
A Dutch truck manufacturer has been building heavy vehicles with electric drives for four years. On Sunday there was a historic test drive over the Großglockner High Alpine Road with a 27-ton truck: to prove the mountain suitability for local truck customers.
While electric cars are already being used more and more often on the streets of Salzburg, e-trucks are still the absolute exception in this country. Although such heavy-duty vehicles are already available in series production, GROHAG boss Johannes Hörl invited the company to a test on Sunday because the Salzburg economy had been very skeptical up to now.
Hörl: “Important data for science and business”
Hörl on the smooth e-truck test drive: “It works and is clearly possible. Any additional test values that can be listed here in terms of range and more – these are all data for science and business that are very crucial. We can already say that the 26-ton semi-trailer with electric drive can probably achieve daily ranges of up to 500 km in practice.”
Gebert: “Increased demand for e-trucks”
Anton Gebert, Head of Marketing at Tschann Commercial Vehicles in Salzburg, adds: “We are already sensing a demand, and reporting on this test drive on the Großglockner will certainly help more entrepreneurs think about it – perhaps opting for electromobility in distribution transport. “
An e-truck currently costs around three times as much as a diesel, but in return it can travel freely where emissions restrictions apply to conventional vehicles.
