Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen (BikeExchange) won the third stage of the Tour de France in Denmark. Danish Magnus Cort defended the climbing jersey.
As expected, there was a mass sprint when the Tour de France field was to settle when the stage from Vejle to Sønderborg reached its last stop in Denmark.
Here, Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen (BikeExchange) was the fastest man and took the stage victory.
Wout van Aert (Jumbo-Visma) came in second and defended his yellow jersey.
Alexander Kristoff was number eleven.
Early on the stage, Danish Magnus Cort (EF) ran away in an outburst where he was shown the climbing jersey that he secured on yesterday’s stage from Roskilde to Nyborg.
The mission was to expand the lead, and it succeeds on its solo trip as an additional Cort three climbing points in return. Thus, Cort so far has six points in the pot.
The lead to the field peaked at 6 minutes and 45 seconds with 161 kilometers to go. He was picked up 53 kilometers from goal. By then he had been in solo break for 129 kilometers.
Then the field got ready for sprint settlement in Sønderborg, the speed was set up and the battle for the positions increased.
With 11 kilometers left, it became a major rollover, where a significant part of the field lost contact with the front and led time losses.
Sunday night, the riders were flown to France. There is a rest day on Monday before it starts on Tuesday on 172 hilly kilometers on the 4th stage from Dunkirk to Calais.
