DIJON: “The Fontaine d’Ouche district must remain served by public transport”, declares Emmanuel Bichot
The opposition municipal councilor reacts to the shutdown by Divia of services to the district after 8 p.m. and suggests “the establishment of a curfew” in the face of threats concerning the internal security and emergency forces.
Press release from the Agir ensemble group for Dijon of July 2, 2022:
Thursday evening, the Fontaine d’Ouche district is no longer served by public transport after 8 p.m., at least until July 18. The Corol and L3 lines stop at the edge of the district.
The cause is, unsurprisingly, the renewed tension in the neighborhood for several days, with mortar fire on the police and ambushes for firefighters.
The withdrawal decision taken by Divia, to protect its staff and passengers, can be perfectly understood.
On the other hand, the municipality of Dijon and the Prefecture do not have the right to give up and capitulate to this situation. Where are the mayor of Dijon, his main assistants, the delegate for this district, the deputy?
The Fontaine d’Ouche district must not fall into an area of lawlessness, where dealers and criminals impose their law. You must not give up an inch of ground.
Its inhabitants, most of whom suffer from this situation, are not second-class citizens.
For years, we have been warning that investing astronomical sums (120 million euros) in the urban renewal of the district will not be enough to restore public order and tranquility.
We must change the settlement policy and allow exceptional and then permanent means to fight against trafficking and restore republican order.
We ask for a permanent police presence in the heart of the district, with a joint police station bringing together national police and municipal police.
In the immediate future, we ask that a crisis device be put in place and the necessary means mobilized to restore service to the district in the evening from Monday. The establishment of a curfew beyond a certain later time should be decided if necessary.
This district deserves better than an electoral staging during the presidential elections, to be relegated immediately afterwards to indifference and resignation.
