Defense cooperation between Portugal and Guinea-Bissau with a new vision and marked by “concrete actions”
The head of the Armed Forces, Admiral António Silva Ribeiro, said that a new vision of cooperation in the area of defense with Guinea-Bissau is being materialized with “concrete actions”.
“These are concrete actions that were defended in a short space of time and that materialize a new vision for a head of cooperation in the field between Portugal and Guinea-Bissau”, said the General Staff of the Forces of (CEMGFA).
Admiral António Silva Ribeiro spoke to journalists in Bissau, where he arrived for a four-day visit, which began with the delivery of books and school supplies to his Guinean counterpart, Biagué Na N’Tam.
During the sweaty in Bissau, CEMGFA will also visit two health centers, in the Guinean Navy and Air Force, recovered with the support of Portugal and deliver a stay to the Guinean Armed Forces.
“This visit follows on from another one I made in sequence, working with the political authorities and the military authorities of Guinea-Bissau, a set of activities was defined that are part of a training mission that was launched at the beginning of the year. ”, explained the admiral, after a meeting with the Guinean Defense Minister, Marciano Silva Barbeiro.
According to CEMGFA, the training mission has several objectives, namely training in the area of health, with 60 Guinean military personnel having already been trained, and the recovery of infrastructure in the area of health.
“We are now in a position to have visible aircraft for aircraft, namely the formation of Guinea aircraft on the Cume, the capacity of the Navy in maritime flights and also the formation of elements of the Navy. These are the essential elements of this training mission,” he said.
“These consist of concise, concrete, rapid training of the Armed Forces of Guinea-Bissau to acquire competence in projects that have been identified as priority activities for the cooperation of the Portuguese Armed Forces”, he added.
The Guinean Defense Minister highlighted that CEMGFA’s visit to Guinea-Bissau is “proof” that the 30 years of technical-military cooperation between the two countries, which are being marked this year, “were worth it”.
Marciano Silva Barbeiro also highlighted that the visit is the “concretion of a new vision of cooperation” between the Guinean and Portuguese Armed Forces.
“Today, it is once again with concrete, palpable actions, to demonstrate that there is enormous interest and special attention from the Portuguese Government and the Portuguese Armed Forces with Guinea-Bissau”, said the Defense Minister.
