Toulouse: A getaway along the water with the Péniche Horizon
The Horizon barge has resumed service on the Garonne until September 10. The opportunity to have an aperitif or dine along the water while discovering the heritage of the city between the dome of La Grave, the barges and the majesty of the river.
Jules Baupin, in his thirties, understood what could attract Toulouse residents and tourists in this summer period, which is often synonymous with heat. By transforming a barge into an ephemeral restaurant that has become the Péniche Horizon, he offers dinner along the water, discovering the Pink City under the stars, revitalized by a little breath of fresh air.”Two years ago, I restored a barge, explains this former member of the Racine guinguette at Port Viguerie. At the end of the season, I joined forces with Ludovic Lumbroso of the Bateaux Toulousains to launch the Horizon barge. During the bad season, we fitted it out and it is now an ephemeral summer restaurant”. A place where you can come every evening for two aperitif cruises with your head in the stars, 7 days a week from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and from 8:15 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and on weekends at noon, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 2:45 p.m. In a guinguette spirit, the crossing under the garlands is the assurance of an unforgettable moment. “Started last year, the concept worked well, ensures Jules Baupin. We had around a hundred people per cruise. Which is a very good figure”.
Every day a new atmosphere
A 30-year-old who is not content to simply walk the public over the water. He also welcomes gourmets to the Origines restaurant, open in Toulouse, (12 place de la Daurade), with Guillaume Monboisse (starred Sept, now sold) who should also open a new establishment in 2023. Origines had already proven its quality of fine gastronomy at the cloister of the Jacobins in 2021. “At Origines, the cuisine rises to the quality of that of Sept”, affirms Jules Baupin, who, decidedly very dynamic, has also opened for this season, the guinguette, the Petanque with friends on the Allées Frédric Mistral in Toulouse. Thus allowing everyone to change the setting and atmosphere every evening, during the summer months.
It takes about 25€ for the ride accompanied by a cocktail to be enjoyed along the water. And €15 for the dinner cruise, to which is added the price of the meal. A formula with local products from the short circuit.
